Chapel services are a vital component of student life at HCA. Held every Monday and Friday morning at the start of our school day, our entire student body meets to recite the Harbor Declaration, L.I.O.N.S., and the scripture of the quarter. A short homily is given by either our head of school, a member of the staff, friends of HCA, and even student volunteers. The chapel service concludes with the hymn of the quarter and the doxology.
It's truly a blessing to experience the entire student body coming together in this way. It helps build a strong sense of community that is rooted in the values we share.

Our 7th graders visited the Matter & Motion exhibit at HMNS which addresses latest developments in chemistry and physics. It was a great way for the students to see concepts of physical science come to life!

"Education is for both the body and the mind, and the classical thinkers understood that the two are inseparable. We are rational animals: creatures with bodies, like other animals, but with rational minds as well. Though the mind is higher than the body, and the cultivation of the human mind is ultimately the source of happiness, the mind cannot thrive unless the body is healthy." - Dr. O'Toole

This spring our 8th grade students participated in art submissions to the Southern Teachers Agency art contest.
The students were challenged to create artwork inspired by a distinctive, recognizable architectural feature of their school.
We are so proud of our students' dedication throughout this process and for showcasing their creativity and talent.

5th graders in Ms. Reyna's biology class participated in a frog dissection assignment today. They have been studying vertebrates with a focus on amphibians. They explored the differences between toads and frogs, examined the amphibian life cycle and the different organs and their functions in today's lab activity.

At HCA, Connection Groups are a key part of student life. Students learn to navigate the challenges relationships bring and grow in their friendships with their peers. A strong sense of community not only boosts student motivation and engagement but also supports their academic and spiritual growth. We are privileged to be a safe harbor for students and to provide a space where they can thrive in many aspects of their lives.

The 8th grade students recently completed a project in which they built and applied the important skills of research and teamwork. Each group chose a virtue, researched it at our local library and identified habits that build their chosen virtue. They decided on ways to practice those habits for a couple weeks and completed their project by presenting their virtue, findings from their experiences, and explaining the effects they believe each virtue has on the world.

Our 6th grade class read A Single Shard, a story set in 12th-century Korea which aligns with the time period they study in class. In it they see examples of perseverance, creativity and the importance of family. As part of their curriculum, they visited a pottery studio, where they learned to use the pottery wheel and created their own pieces. What a fun way to bring their literature and history studies to life!
A big thanks to the folks at @potclubtx for an amazing workshop and for seamlessly connecting the pottery wheel techniques with the book!

We celebrated National School Choice Week! We are so thankful for the many families that choose Harbor Christian Academy and form part of our wonderful community!

At the heart of HCA is its Board of Directors, who work tirelessly to support the growth and success of the school, benefiting both students and our community.
Meet Beverly Smith, our board chair and a founding member. Of her involvement with HCA, she says the following:
"My three children graduated from Providence Classical School in Spring, Texas. Their education equipped them to view the world through the lens of Scripture, think logically, reason well, and communicate in a winsome way. It occurred to me that this formative and beneficial education could have the same impact for all children. In 2015, I felt a strong calling from God to create a school that would provide a classical Christian education for children whose parents could not otherwise afford a private school. This mission has been central in my life ever since, and I am grateful to be a part of the Harbor Christian Academy team."

According to the classical tradition the true, the good, and the beautiful are the soul’s nourishment. Furthermore, as Image of God, the human soul is able to know them. To fulfill his role, a person’s human faculties to perceive truth, to love and reproduce the beautiful, and to revere and act on the good must be cultivated. - Society for Classical Learning

"Music exemplifies scientific and mathematical order and can be approached as logic and math through the study of harmony and form. To teach classically, you must open the door to the vast experience of Beauty. We all strive to teach our students to discern Beauty, to seek it out, and to use it as a reliable guidepost to what is good and true. Thus, to study music classically is to study Beauty." - Dr. Carol Reynolds
HCA is blessed to have Mr. Smith teaching our wonderful students in Music class!

Chapel on the first day of school began with an exhortation from our new Head of School, John Bryant.
Mr. Bryant encouraged the HCA student body through Ephesians 2, that as the body of Christ, we can all be built into something beautiful because we are God's masterpiece.
Our students were led by Mr. Smith in singing our hymn of the quarter, Great is Thy Faithfulness, and we had a beautiful morning of worship. Looking ahead to a year of beginning each day with the word of God and in prayer.
