At HCA, Family Involvement Days are more than just calendar events-they're meaningful opportunities to strengthen the bonds within our school community while equipping families with resources that reflect our core distinctives. This past gathering was no exception.
The morning began with our eighth graders leading the school in First Things First, our morning assembly which sets the tone for our days. Together we recited our Harbor values – guiding principles that shape our school culture:
L is for Love God
I is for Imitate Christ
O is for Obey Scripture
N is for Notice Beauty
S is for Serve All
Our community then joined in reciting the Scripture of the Quarter, Luke 6:27-42, which encourages us to love others and extend grace. The Virtue of the Quarter, Justice, was recited with the unifying declaration: "I practice justice when I seek harmony and the common good for each person and my community." We closed First Things First by singing our Hymn of the Quarter, "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" and concluding with the Doxology.
Following our assembly, students joined their teachers in the classroom while parents gathered for our Lions Lighthouse session. This time, we welcomed a representative from Crime Stoppers, who shared helpful tips and insights on how we can work together to keep our children safe online.
One of the highlights of Family Involvement Day is the opportunity for parents to experience the richness of classical education firsthand:
Kindergarten painted eggs after reading Rechenka’s Eggs
1st Grade created Family Storybooks after performing recitations
2nd Grade designed mythical home maps
3rd Grade challenged parents in a trivia game: Are You Smarter than a 3rd Grader?
4th Grade built model cabins inspired by Little House in the Big Woods, integrating math through area and perimeter
5th Grade practiced real-life math by calculating tax and totals for pretend store purchases
6th Grade worked on set design for our upcoming Creative Expressions program
7th Grade shared personal stories of faith, hope, charity, wisdom, and courage with their families
8th Grade explored the Dust Bowl through a reflective picture and music study
Family Involvement Days at HCA continue to reflect our commitment to holistic education-nurturing hearts, minds, and relationships in Christ-centered community. We are grateful to our community for partnering with us in our mission to help students succeed.
